When it comes time to sell your home, improving your curb appeal is critical to success.
One of the first things prospective buyers see, whether in-person or online, is the outside of your home. Go outside and take a look at your home from across the street.
Do you see toys scattered about? An unkempt lawn, peeling paint, or burned-out lights can all send potential buyers the message that your home hasn’t been cared for. This, of course, will devalue it.
The following is just a few items to look at and fix, if necessary.
Is the front door inviting? Replace hardware and paint to give it a welcoming feel.
Is your mailbox dinged and sitting crooked on its post? Replace it with a new one and consider matching it to your home trim.
Don’t forget to look at your home after dark. A dark pathway and entryway isn’t good for inviting people to see your home. Consider installing solar lights along the walkway and make sure the lights at the door are bright and welcoming. Add a motion light to the driveway for extra light and security. Is the street address visible and can it be seen at night? Replace the numbers with large, easy-to-read ones and add a light to illuminate them at night.
Add a touch of whimsy with a fun piece of yard art. A colorful bird house or sculpture adds a welcoming touch.
Create a warm walkway from the sidewalk to your front door. Stone or brick pavers can be installed in a straight or slightly curved path. Keep the landscaping trim and neat and toys picked up.
